The FOOLS!!
They Laughed at me at the University!

I haven't updated THIS part in ages, and I've learned a hell of a lot about photography since then. I'll be sharing that within the next week or 4...

Flash or no flash?

   Too washed out                                    Oddly reddish-yellow

Apparently these are both standard photographic errors, with very standardized filters sold to compensate.

"Daylight" balanced film doesn't like overly white/blue (like the flash on the Nikon) all that much. So they sell "warming" filters like the standardized 81A.

It also doesn't like incandescent light at all. So they sell 80A&B filters. An 82A might also cut it.

Apparently lighting balance is referred to in "Degrees Kelvin." Lower the temp, the redder the light, higher the temp, the more blue-ish. Standard 100-watt incandescent lights put off something like a 3200K color range. Daylight film wants about 5500 or so. Bright artificial lighting can be up to 5500K.

Strictly speaking, the one on the left is only a little off, in need of a slight tweak. The one on the right is pretty out to lunch, in need of a moderately dense filter.

Tre'-science dorkery.
